ID3NTITY CRISIS
Who are you…how do you identify yourself? I am. Are you a name…a body…a face in the mirror? I see you. Are you a collection of characteristics, tendencies, memories? I forget. Who are you when you’re alone? I am a liar. Who are you in relationship? I am an actor. Who are you in dialog? At my best, I am your servant…no one, serving nothing. You and I, How can we be together?
I woke up this morning….again…just like every other morning, You wake up. You hear your dreams materialize into life. You feel the blanket, hot against your nightmare sweaty skin. You feel the bed supporting you dead weight. You feel vibrations of traffic through the floor, building, street. You open your eyes. You are in a space, a room in a structure. Your awareness expands as you remember that you fell asleep in a city, state, country, continent. You must be there now. You lose breath as the atmosphere thins and you see yourself as a planet. A blue and white speck in an unimaginable blackness. Can you see the edge of the expansion and define the borders between something and nothing? …again, I wake up this morning….again, by nature, I am an addict.
ARTIST STATEMENT
(For what it’s worth…if I could communicate effectively through words, I would be a poet. If I could communicate effectively through images, I would…)
“Fragmented by contradiction, stripped of logical order, relentlessly reflected by nature, the reality of mind cannot rest. Inflicted with fear, wonder, awe and panic, my work is an obsessive compulsive expression of the human emotional experience. I fantasize that time will reveal itself as a journey to peace and acceptance of life.”
My work had been described as psychotic, obsessed, methodical, paranoid, and labor intensive to an almost painful quality.
